Various Poker Strategies You Can Employ

When playing poker, players use many different poker strategies depending on the opponents seated at the table, the type of hands you have had, the size of the- pot and the odds in the game. Deception is one of the main strategies you can employ to outwit your opponents and try to manipulate them into thinking that you have the winning hand. You may actually have the winning hand but in this game, you won’t know that until the end.

Bluffing is one form of a deception strategy in which you know that you have an inferior hand but you still place a bet or raise the bet. You can use a stone-cold bluff when you feel that if you raise the bet all the other players will fold. A semi-bluff means to place a bet on your hand in one round hoping that you will get better cards in the next round to improve your hand. One thing you do need to know about bluffing in poker and that is the situation in which it is advantageous for you to use this strategy. Sometimes it will work against you, such as when you have only a few or you have opponents who do have sufficient bankroll that they will meet any raise you bet.

Slow play is another deceptive strategy that is the opposite of bluffing. This means that you make a weak bet when you know you have a strong hand to lead others to think that they have the winning hand and draw them into the betting to increase the size of the pot. You can keep your opponents going by not raising their bets and by just playing along until the final hands are revealed.

Other strategies often used in poker include:

- Hand Reading. This is the strategy of making educated guesses about the cards your opponents are playing based on their actions and his/her past playing performances.

- Tells. These are detectable changes in an opponent’s actions or movements based on the cards they see. Once you have been playing with the same players for a while, you will learn to read their expressions, even though they try to maintain a poker face.

- Poker Face. With some players you can tell by their ****** expression whether or not they have a good hand. Some of them already know what their telltale signs are and wear sunglasses to hide their eyes or try to hide their faces with large hats so that the other players cannot read their faces.

- Fake Tells. This is a strategy in which you can make your opponents think you have a good hand when, in fact, you don’t. They think they can read you and will therefore fold allowing you to move in and win the pot.

Stealing is a strategy similar to bluffing. In this strategy, you raise the bet even though you know that you don’t have a winning hand in hopes that other players will fold.

Bangkok Hotels- I Once Was Lost But Now I’m Found

March 29, 2009 by bkkpkerplayer

The final day

The final day of my stay in Thailand came to an abrupt end actually, not only was I pleasantly surprised to find myself driven in a luxury limousine to the airport, but I was also escorted by simply the most beautiful Thai lady I had ever met. I hoped she was coming with me. To be honest, I wasn’t quite sure where I was during my stay here in Bangkok, after being laid up in hospital for part of my holiday, then waking in a hotel room perhaps days or perhaps weeks later. It wasn’t until I was actually on my way home that I realized the full gravity of the situation that had passed. After all, I could have been killed.

The people of Bangkok are not exactly famed for their safe driving practises. Tuks Tuks, taxis, family-straddled-mopeds and buses weave in and out like spiders in a thread of intricacy that only local Bangkokians themselves believe to be great driving skills. So to be involved in an accident here, especially when you had counted on hiring a car and driving for while should really come as no surprise to anyone.  Precisely what had happened is anyone’s guess. I remember leaving my hotel that morning on whichever date it was. I remember looking at hotel boutiques and I remember getting in to my hire-car and driving along the hotel and boutique areas of the Sukhumvit Road. But as far as

what happened after that, who knows. The police didn’t, the other vehicle if there indeed was one, had fled the scene. No witnesses, so there we have it. My stay in the local hospital and my consequent return to the Tai-Pan hotel (I had previously been able to find and book into), were-as it turned out- very pleasant retreats from the bustle-bustle of the mad Bangkok streets. I had a most comfortable bed, delicious food and great views of Bangkok and the surrounding areas, including parks of lush green and birds in song and all the nature you could find. And although I was pretty much concussed and incapacitated with a broken arm and injured leg I was well enough to be escorted by the wonderful staff of the hotel for a stroll in the gardens or to the hotel boutiques and stores- a real find.  As the days ran by here, I had the feeling I was on some strange journey of enlightenment that had been printed in the lines of some exotic novel of far eastern lands. I had no friends but didn’t feel lonely, I had no urge to call anyone and let them know what had happened but felt no concern. I hadn’t died and wasn’t too seriously injured. And although the wave of my thoughts undulated up and down like a calm tsunami, I felt a sense of peace and tranquillity that I had never had in all my life. So as we drove slowly back to the airport, courtesy of the Tai-Pan, accompanied by this lovely lady I said “There is one last thing I’d like to do…I haven’t seen the Grand Palace yet”.  In fact I’d seen nothing of Bangkok, so as we drove onwards towards the Grand Palace complex and surrounding Sunamluang Park Gardens I can honestly say contently I was glad I’d come here, this was a holiday I’d never forget.

What are Online Poker Rooms?

The famous card game of Poker has always been a favorite amongst many people and has been highly regarded at casinos worldwide, this is mainly the reason why it is not uncommon to hear that card games, especially Poker is more popular than any other game. Learning this game can be hard, this depends on who is teaching you and the place that you are learning, for instance going a Casino in Vegas might not be the best idea if you want to learn how to play the game, this is because Las Vegas and other places where you find Poker tables are filled with people who have been playing it for a quite a while, in other words there seems to be no room for beginners.

Level of expertise, privacy and security is where online poker rooms draw the line. Poker rooms are referred to a group of individuals who sign up to a particular section in a Poker related website for instance there might be a “room or section’ which offers players 100% bonus based on their initial deposit, others might have a high stakes/high rewards tournament which might grab someone’s attention; regardless of the incentive rooms are best identified by the bonuses they offer, the amount of players and the languages/currencies allowed.

These rooms are available to anyone who has an internet connection, they are user friendly and provide several levels where beginners can learn the basics by playing with just a few pennies and when they are ready they are allowed to move up to different categories of their interest; this is actually a great advantage over actual casinos where beginners or “newbies” are often ridiculed one way or another by more experienced players.

Security and legitimacy is always been a concern of most new players, this is because they often think that they are playing against a computer bot which acts as if it were a person which is in fact a common misconception. Online poker rooms are highly regulated and the security is just as tight as the one on real casinos; these sites and rooms are not run by one person, they are supported by a group of people who have structured a reputable international company, some of these rooms have even gone public by being registered in the stock market. There are several entities which regulate these sites for instance we have Titan Poker which is regulated by the Kahnawake Gaming Commission located in Canada (You can Google this for accuracy if you want)

As mentioned above these poker rooms are famous for providing bonuses which match the initial deposit, some may even go higher, this is something you won’t find at actual Casinos. Poker bonuses is what makes online Poker great in the eyes of many on top of the fact that many worldwide famous players are often found at these rooms, they might even help organize the next WSP which as you know is a very prestigious activity among the Poker playing community.

Foreign Ownership Rules for Condos in Bangkok

March 27, 2009 by bkkpkerplayer

Owning a condominium, or, condo unit, is regarded as the easiest as well as the most practical way for foreigners to acquire a property in Bangkok. In other words, condo is perhaps the biggest and most favored investment option for foreigners who prefer to stay in Bangkok.

Purchasing a condo in Bangkok is comparatively cheap in contrast to other Asian cities such as Singapore, Hong Kong, and Shanghai. When it costs billions of dollars for a typical condominium unit in cities like Hong Kong and Singapore, you can easily own a condominium complete with luxurious bedrooms and facilities such as swimming pool, for just around $700,000.

However, condominium investment in Bangkok is mostly based on the spot where it is located as well as the convenient transportation. For instance, condominium complexes located in such posh areas as central business district (CBD), BTS, and MRT stations are much sought after.

Since they can considerably cut down the transportation cost and can eliminate the chaos of traveling to and fro your work place, condos located close to Skytrain and subway routes are also of great demand. Likewise, condominium units near strategic shopping areas including Sathorn, Silom, Sukhumvit areas, and Rama III areas are also much preferred by the foreigners.

Depending upon the buyers’ taste, budget, and choice of location, condominium units in Bangkok come in a myriad of options such as small studios, three-bedroom complexes, and penthouses. Majority of the condo property found in the city’s areas like Sathorn and Sukhumvit, and vary in size between 55 to 60 sqm and 75 to 80 sqm. For investors seeking luxurious condominiums, then a myriad of high-end choices are available in the form of three-bedroom units, ranging in size between 100 sqm to 120 sqm and 140 sqm to 200 sqm.

When comes to prices, the cost of a condo unit in prime areas such as Silom and Sukhumvit are about Bt100, 000 per square meter. Investing in these strategic locations have high resale value, and can also fetch you good income in the form of rent. The prices are even higher for condominiums located in areas including Soi Langsuan and Wireless, Rajdamri or Sathorn roads, which is up to about Bt200, 000 per square meter. The demand for condominium is at its peak now in the capital city. Nowadays, many investors, both foreigners and locals, purchase condos in Bangkok pre-build.

According to certain records, foreign investors have been accounted for about 15% of all condo units bought and sold last year in Bangkok. Factors such as low rates on mortgages, excess liquidity in the financial and banking system and tremendous boom in stock market have led many foreigners to invest in condominiums in Bangkok.

Above all, the laws pertaining to owning a condominium is quite simple and liberal when compared to other Asian cities. In other words, a condominium or condo is the only type of property that can be legally purchased by a foreigner in Thailand. The only restriction for a foreigner to purchase a condo is that a foreigner can normally acquire up to, but not exceeding 49% of a condo property.

However, in order to qualify for condominium ownership or buy a condo unit in Thailand, it is mandatory for the foreigners to meet any of the five criteria put forward by the Condominium Act B.E 2535 (1992) such as:

- To possess a residence permit

- A foreigner with the permit to stay in Thailand according to the Investment Promotion Law

- Foreigner who is able to bring in the entire money for purchasing the condominium unit in the country in foreign currency

- Foreign juristic entity with BOI privileges in the country

- Foreign juristic person possessing some land right as per stated in the Land Code

In addition, there are certain requirements for purchasing a condominium in Thailand, such as, the foreigner must have a bank account in the country and a copy of the foreigners’ passport showing an immigration stamp that he or she is in the country at the time of the purchase of a condominium.

Mostly, foreigners own a condominium unit in the city by bringing in 100% of funds for the purchase of condo unit in foreign currency. Further, it is necessary that funds that have been used for the purchase of condominium are correctly recorded on a Foreign Exchange Transaction Form, which is a bank account issued by the bank on receiving foreign currency into your bank account in the country. It is also important to state in the Foreign Exchange Transaction Form that the remittance has been solely made for the purchase of a condominium in Thailand.

A plethora of property builders and realtors are in the scenario to find you a condominium unit that goes with your requirements. Today, many of them have their own sites on the web, inclusive detailed description on property, digital photos of the property, detailed floor plan, and a location map. This in turn allows you to easily select a condominium according to your taste and pocket.

Going to Bangkok? Feeling overwhelmed with choices? Well, don’t be.

Here are some great Bangkok hotels we recommend based on your budget:

1. 8,000-9,000 BAHT A NIGHT:

- THE ORIENTAL HOTEL – One of the world’s premier hotels. The oldest hotel in Bangkok on the bank of Chao Phraya River. Nice colonial-style architecture. Not in the city center though.

2. 7,000-8,000 BAHT A NIGHT:

- THE PENINSULA BANGKOK HOTEL – High reviews, world awards. On the bank of the Chao Phraya River, but on the farther island. Free hotel’s shuttle boat service takes you to BTS skytrain.

- SUKOTHAI HOTEL – Beautiful contemporary Thai architecture in beautiful landscaped garden. A bit far from shopping areas but worth the beauty.

- FOUR SEASONS HOTEL BANGKOK – Right in front of BTS skytrain. The name guarantees the luxury. Close to most shopping malls.

3. 6,000-7,000 BAHT A NIGHT:

- GRAND HYATT ERAWAN – Stunning garden spa. Very close to BTS skytrain. High-end shopping right below the hotel and just across the street.

- THE BANYAN TREE BANGKOK – One of the newest hotels in Bangkok. The tallest hotel building in Bangkok. Exceptional spa and massage.

4. 5,000-6,000 BAHT A NIGHT:

- SHERATON GRANDE SUKUMVIT – Beautiful Thai/Bali style swimming pool garden with soothing underwater music. Right at BTS skytrain.

- SHANGRI-LA HOTEL – On the bank of Bangkok’s Chao Phraya River. Nice pool, nice view. But don’t try the hotel’s Angelini Italian restaurant though.

5. 4,000-5,000 BAHT A NIGHT:

- CONRAD HOTEL BANGKOK – Contemporary hotel for modern lifestyle. A bit of walking to do to get to BTS skytrain. Traffic is always horrible right in front of the hotel.

- PLAZA ATHENEE HOTEL – Nice and close to BTS skytrain. But the hotel’s name might cause pronunciation problem between you and local taxi driver. Bring the hotel’s business card and the road name in Thai with you.

6. 3,000-4,000 BAHT A NIGHT:

- MARRIOTT RESORT AND SPA – Right on the bank of Bangkok’s Chao Phraya River. Very much like a secluded and relaxing resort. Not in the city center, but free shuttle boat to BTS station makes it all fine.

- NAI LERT PARK, RAFFLES INTERNATIONAL HOTEL – Lush garden with peaceful atmosphere. Within walking distance from BTS skytrain and shopping malls.

- TRIPLE TWO SILOM HOTEL – Nice boutique hotel with contemporary Asian design. At night, enjoy Silom Road’s street market.

7. 2,000-3,000 BAHT A NIGHT:

- PATUMWAN PRINCESS HOTEL – Great location, but always under renovation. Right inside MBK Shopping Center. Try the hotel’s Japanese+Korean buffet lunch at Konju restaurant, only $25/person.

- SOFITEL SILOM – Cozy boutique hotel in Bangkok. Few steps off the night market on Silom road. Near BTS skytrain.

8. 1,000-2,000 BAHT A NIGHT:

- BUDDY LODGE KHAO SAN ROAD – Nice hotel in the world-famous Khao San Road area. Good for backpacker with more budget. Ask for a quiet room. Khao San could get noisy at night.

9. 500-1,000 BAHT A NIGHT:

- ROYAL RIVER HOTEL – On the bank of Bangkok’s Chao Phraya River. Quite difficult to get into the city. Big room for small price. You also get free breakfast buffet.

At the time of this writing, US$1 = 40 Thai Baht. You can check today’s currency converter at http://www.xe.com/ucc/

Bangkok Residential Properties Market

March 24, 2009 by bkkpkerplayer

Bangkok is the largest as well as the capital city in Thailand, strategically located in the heart of South-East Asia. Once a small trading center, Bangkok has now become one of the world’s most popular destinations, and is regarded as the gateway to the country.

In addition to being a sought after tourist spot, Bangkok is also the financial, education, commercial, and economic center of the country. Many of the leading companies in the country are headquartered in Bangkok. Hence, it is not a wonder why property market, both commercial and residential, in Bangkok is booming. Discussed further in this article are different types of residential property available in Bangkok.

Residential property in Bangkok includes everything from houses, townhouses, and housing estates to condominiums, flats, and serviced apartments. In fact, the city boasts of some of the most wonderful residential properties in the world. Perhaps most sought after among the residential property types in Bangkok are apartments. You can see high-rise apartment blocks dominating the city’s skyline. This option is highly popular among expatriates, since it is mostly attached with round the clock security services and repair services, apart from facilities such as state of the art fitness rooms, children’s play area, and garden.

Another popular category of residential property in Bangkok is condominiums, which is more or less like apartments, only with the exception that they are mostly individually owned. This in turn allows you to rent it directly from the owners. Both furnished and unfurnished condominiums units are available. One of the specialties of condominiums is that it is the only type of property that could be owned by foreigners.

Residential property market in Bangkok also consists of serviced apartments. This choice is a great alternative over expensive hotel rooms, and is regarded as an excellent accommodation option for frequent business travelers as well as tourists who are here for long stays. Further, a host of benefits could be derived via living in a serviced apartment, including, privacy, excellent living style, and competitive rates.

A serviced apartment is mostly complete with all facilities and amenities that an upscale hotel renders, such as, tastefully decorated rooms, most sophisticated entertainment facilities, restaurants, superb dining facilities, swimming pool, 24-hour service, and daily maid services. Apart from these, some of the most luxurious apartment blocks come with facilities such as laundry services, coffee shop, convenience store, and bakery. The cost of a serviced apartment usually depends on the nature, size, number of bedrooms, and facilities and amenities in it.

For those seeking tranquility and want to be away from the hustles of city, then one of the best residential property choices is housing skirts that are mostly located on the outskirts of the city. Al though it not as sophisticated as living in a city apartment, housing estates are clean, and are noted for their traditional look. They are connected to the city center via expressways and other transport systems.

Likewise, if you are looking for a choice in a serene area which at the same time should be expensive, then townhouses are excellent choices for you. Townhouses are usually located in off main roads, and are usually in the form of multi-leveled, semi detached structures. Also, a popular type of residential property in Bangkok is house. In contrast to housing estates and townhouses, a house is a free standing spacious structure, mostly coupled with excellent facilities. However, houses situated in Central Business District are exceptionally expensive.

Residential properties in Bangkok is primarily concentrated around such areas as Chiang Mai, which in turn is a much favored spot among foreign nationals who are looking to settle down here permanently. Also, hot spots for residential units in Bangkok are Ram Intra, Rangsit, Nonthaburi, and Chang Wattana. Since it is within easy reach of almost all top attractions and superb facilities in the city, such areas as Central Business District are much sought after.

In addition, it can be provide you with a continuum of financial as well as personal benefits. However, a foreigner cannot easily own a residential property in Thailand, since laws in connection with Thai property acquisition is nationalistic. In fact, leasing is one of the most popular options for foreigners who cannot purchase a property in Bangkok.

How to Get Around Phuket

March 24, 2009 by bkkpkerplayer

For a long time, transport has been one of the major issues hindering tourists’ enjoyment during their holidays to Phuket. Whereas in Bangkok there is the skytrain, the underground, lots of buses, cheap taxis and reasonably priced tuk-tuks, travel around Phuket is a little more complicated and a lot more expensive.

You’ll see the problem as soon as you step off the plane at Phuket International Airport and try to find a taxi to your hotel. The drivers shout at new arrivals and try and shepherd them into their cabs. However, even the metered taxis will make you agree to a price before you travel. As a general rule, about 400 baht is the going rate to Phuket Town, whereas to Patong you may have to pay up to 600 baht. You can haggle the price down a little, but don’t expect to nab yourself a bargain.

Once you’re in Phuket, you’ll likely want to travel around the island. The easiest way to do this is to hire a motorcycle. It’s unlikely you’ll be asked to show a license when renting a bike, but be sure to wear your helmet at all times so as not to be pulled over by the police and land yourself in hot water. A motorbike can be hired for about 200 baht a day. Finding your way around Phuket’s roads is easy enough, especially if you have a map.

If you don’t want to ride a motorbike, or hire a car, you’ll need to rely on pubic transport. There are buses and songthaew that travel between the larger areas of the island. The fare is usually 20 baht, although this option is only available during the day. Come nightfall and you’re going to have to fend for yourself.

No matter how many times people complain, Phuket cannot sort itself out with a decent taxi service. The metered taxis are barred from picking people up anywhere other than the airport.

Tuk-tuks are the only option. They will try and overcharge you, so you have to negotiate a fare. Be warned, though, that tuk-tuk drivers can become very aggressive if you get into a heated argument with them or, worse, refuse to pay the full fare after completing a journey.

Motorcycle taxis are handy for traveling short distances. Look for a group of people sat around wearing bright-colored vests, the standard uniform of the motorcycle-taxi driver. Agree the fare before you travel and hold on tight.

If you’re staying at a decent hotel, then the concierge desk may be able to arrange transport, but expect to pay for the privilege.

When traveling back to the airport, try and make use of the Airport Bus (www.airportbusphuket.com) if you’re staying near the route. The fare is only 100 baht and there are pick-ups throughout the day.
