The most beautiful places youve traveled to – Part 2

The most beautiful place I have travelled to is Ko Phanghan in the South of Thailand. I was a bit hesitant to go there at first with the island being a 15 hour coach journey from the centre of Bangkok in what can only be described as a rickety old bus but I am so glad I did.
The coach stops at Surathani where you have to get a ferry across to Ko Phanghan. It is slightly unerring at first when you are met by a barrage of taxi drivers before you’ve even had a chance to breathe. Me and my friend I was with jumped onto the back of a 4×4 and were swept off to our resort.
We stayed at the Phanghan beach resort. This place looked just like the perfect holiday brochure. Beautifully crafted wooden huts, surrounded with palm trees and the beach right on the doorstep. The only sound I could here was the relaxing beat of the waves as they hit the shore. The people were amazing too. I was able to watch the England soccer World Cup games on the beach gazing into the magnificent Thai sunset which sure beat sitting in the smoke-filled pub back in the UK. It really was a place of fantastic beauty. I felt like I was in one of those Carlsberg commercial, “if Carlsberg made holiday’s, they would be the best holidays ever.” What I didn’t realise was that this was only the start.
Early evening on our second day on Ko Phanghan, the owner of the resort who was informally known as Mr S and his daughter Benni asked if we would like to go somewhere with them. Ok, that might have sounded slightly disconcerting but none the less we took them up on their offer. It is difficult to put into words the place we were taken to. It was on the other side of the island. The best thing to do is imagine paradise and times it by ten, then you start to get close to this place. The beach was so tranquil and quaint you could here a pin drop from a mile away. The water was a perfect transparent blue. There were hundreds of small finish swimming through the coral below. All around us were mountain backdrops there just added to the atmosphere of secluded tropical paradise. I could’ve stayed there all night quite happily in my own little dream world. I think the best word to sum it up is ‘Wow.’
