Producer Ashwani Chopra, who is the line producer for many Indian and international ventures, celebrated the completion of his venture, Mr Bhatti on Chutti with Mr Bhatti aka Anupam Kher and director Karan Razdan. What could be a more apt venue than the acting academy of Anupam Kher, An Actor Prepares.
Dressed in white, Anupam was candid in his views. And admitted that “Mr Bhatti as a character was international and the aim was to make him an icon. Mr Bhatti was born in Nala Sopara, was a bank manager who kept thinking someone was following him, aspired to be a detective, had a fear of dogs, was shy of women, and was a staunch fan of Mr Bachchan. He has the essence of being an Indian icon, globally,” he avered.
Director Karan Razdan felt that “Bhatti with his sense of humour was actually tackling serious global issues. “If you wish to say something serious, sometimes the best way to do it is with a sense of humour,” he stated.
“The film is a comedy. But in the larger sense, it talks about Bhatti’s peace plan in a world ravaged by war and hunger. The film is also a celebration of Mr Amitabh Bachchan’s stardom. He plays Mr Bhatti’s conscience and also his inspiration,” he added.
Producer Ashwani Chopra only seemed to agree as he announced two Bhatti sequels, “Bhatti Bhatti Bang Bang to be shot in Bangkok and Bhatti in China, obviously to be shot in China.”
The makers felt that film had the potential for a series as memorable as the Chaplain, Said Anupam, ” In every actor’s repertoire, he essays one role which he would like to be remembered, and which he would like to reprise. Mr Bhatti is one such role for me. I have being a staunch Chaplain fan all my life and if I achieve even one-tenth of what he did, it would be a remarkable achievement,” he stated.
Here is looking forward to more from the trio.
THE STORYLINE
Shot extensively in the picturesque Lake District in England, Mr Bhatti on Chutti is writer-director Karan Razdan’s latest laugh-a minute opus. It revolves around Mr Bhatti (Anupam Kher) who works in a bank and has a peace plan aimed at saving the world. The key to that plan is Mr. George W Bush whom Mr. Bhatti has been trying to contact at the White House from his bank. But strange things are happening to the man who wants to save mankind… he is being followed and photographed. Wonder who these guys are?
Then he wins a free trip to Europe, though he has entered no contest. But how can Mr. Bhatti go on this trip without telling his favorite star, Mr. Amitabh Bachchan about it.
Strange things happen to him even in the placid Lake District. And the finale has been magically uplifted with Amitabh Bachchan’s appearance.
Mr Bhatti on Chutti has been produced by Ashwani Chopra and Gain Charade and has been written and directed by Karan Razdan
