Texas holdem has become the most popular poker game in the UK, and in the world. Playing Texas holdem Poker is fun regardless of the money on the line or lack of it. In this article, we will explore some to the aspects that contribute to success in the game of Texas holdem poker. Texas holdem poker is as much a game of luck as it is a game of skill. There are many opinions and strategies used by successful players who are considered Texas holdem poker experts. If you want to become the chip leader, there is only one way to play, and that one way is as a bully. Don’t let yourself fall into a rut, and by all means, do not become predictable. That is how most players end up losing the game. Change it up whenever you can, you need to adopt multiple strategies if you wish to truly become successful at Texas holdem poker.

Keep your emotions under control at all times. They will kill you at the Texas holdem table if your opponents learn to start reading your body language and facial expressions. At the same time, All players should be aware of their opponents body language, and facial expressions. Even the strongest of players have moments of weakness when their true feelings are revealed. A player with a keen eye will notice when the time is right to place large bets, especially if they feel their opponent is bluffing their way through a hand. Texas holdem is mostly about seizing opportunities, not bluffing your way through every hand.

Texas holdem poker is an interesting and very challenging casino game. If you are interested in participating in a game, then I recommend reading up on the Texas holdem poker rules to gain an advantage. If you also want to gain some idea on betting strategies and game play tips, then try watching Texas holdem poker on the ESPN or Travel Channel. Watching other people play is the only way to gain valuable experience without risking any of your own money. Not only this, but you also save time because you are learning from other peoples mistakes and experiences.

If you are going to play off-suit cards in Texas holdem poker, then make sure that they are a very strong pair. The problem with having an off suit pair of cards is that you are out of the running to get a flush, and other powerful hands. The most dangerous of poker players have a playing style that is tight and aggressive. By playing aggressively and raising your bets at regular rates, you will scare many of your opponents into thinking you have a big hand. Like many other situations in Texas holdem, knowing your opponents will help you judge the situation when you hold a strong pair of cards, and your opponents don’t have anything.

Texas holdem poker is a very unpredictable game, and you can never tell what is going to happen. It’s obvious to see why Texas holdem is the most popular forms of poker in the world today. The best advice I can give to any potential poker player is to always leave your emotions at the table when you play. Always keep a poker face, and always remain calm and focussed. If you are to win more hands than your opponents, you should also become very familiar with the rules, and which hands have the strongest chances for winning. In the long run, practice and experience are the two biggest factors for any Texas holdem players successes.

Trying to have some luck on a casino table is not just mere sitting on comfortable chair watching the cards to be laid down. There are rules to be followed and strategies for a sure win. A veteran poker player knew all about these. And they maximize their strategies to take advantage of the rookie players.

The veterans or masters of that field could easily spot a new comer in that particular field. In a casino table, a poker newbie is not exempted. A veteran poker player could easily determine a poker newbie. Watch out, they will dig every single penny in your pocket.

There are techniques for us to disguise and go along with these master-poker players undetermined.

Be observant

An example mistake a rookie commits is the string betting – a player call a bet and then make a raise. Then followed by familiar action indicating that you are a rookie player. These actions will then use by the matured poker player to take advantage of you during the game. Within the thoughts of this seasoned poker player, he/she is laughing at you and the same time, use some strategies unfamiliar to you through out the game.

The traditional pattern in calling a bet – announce that you are going to raise first before pushing your bet, anticipating the possible raise your opponent might call. Chain reactions will occur. Chances are, you will not be treated as rookie poker player.

Control Your Emotions

A seasoned poker player will determine if your card standing is good or not. By way of body language, through emotions and facial expressions you are showing, a seasoned poker player will know if you will raise a bet or not. This is a disadvantage on your part and an advantage on your opponent.

Incidentally, a rookie poker player will manifest a familiar facial expression on the first time he looks on his cards. The expression that will manifest on your face will show, telling to your opponent if you have good or not good enough cards to bet on.

Furthermore, the first time you look at your cards and you become happy, it shows that you have nice cards to compete within that round, but if you frown and displeased, it shows that you don’t have good cards to play. In addition, you are announcing the status of your cards.

Every veteran on the table can pick a hint on your actions. These actions will be used against you. Even the smallest action of the hand will manifest during the game expressing something, giving additional hints about your cards whether they are competitive or not.

These seasoned poker players knew everything within or around the table. A manifestation of a simple hint of advantage will be of great deal to them. In fact, they are patient in waiting for these hints. Furthermore, they knew every player they had competed before and also remember some anecdotes that had been shown during the game.

Unless you go to casinos just to divert your attention from stressful weekdays, and have some fun and you have lots money to bet on. But every poker player wants to win the game so as persons going to casino, to have some luck.

Every person who succeeded in his or her chosen endeavor had worked hard for it. They exerted extraordinary effort and sacrifices. In the poker game, the word lucky is always mentioned because the luck depends on the cards you receive, yet there are strategies for us to win the game.

You, as poker rookie should remember the ROI (return of investment) that being new in the game, you will loose on the first, second or even on the following game. The same scenario, its just like you are investing on it. On the following games, you will surely win because you’ve learned already the proper protocol of the game.

Although these things don’t assure the possibility that you will loss or win the game, the best thing to do in a first-time situation is to take precaution. Every opponent is looking a point for him to take advantage of the other. Be smart and be the first to find that hole.

5 Tips To Improve Your Heads Up Poker Play

You’ve finally made it! You’ve played Texas Hold’em for hours and hours, dodged some scary all ins, caught a couple of breaks and now you are sitting at the final table playing heads up poker. Once the joy of making the final table has subsided you will have to get down to business and stake out your opponent. Hopefully by now you have got a good read on the player, their tendencies, strengths and weaknesses. However, it may be important to know that poker players often switch modes when it comes down to heads up play. A poker players heads up play may be completely different than their regular play. Here are some tips to help you improve your heads up Texas Hold’em poker strategy.

Tip#1 – An Ace in the Hole

The #1 rule of heads up poker play is that when you have an ace as a hole card you will usually be in a dominant position pre flop. You should then raise/re-raise strong to see what the opponent’s reaction will be. Often times an opponent will fold (depending on the specific style of the poker player) for fear of the ace or a pocket pair. Sometimes you may get called but remember, in heads up poker players have a tendency to make loose calls. Odds are you will still be in a dominant position.

Tip #2 – Lower Your Expectations

While playing heads up Texas Hold’em poker, chances are that you cannot afford to wait on a good hand. A quality hand in heads up poker is not the same as when playing with a bigger group. You may have to settle with J-6 offsuit and just see what happens. The odds are that many times your opponent will have a bad looking hand as well.

Tip #3 – Try To Pick Up A Betting Pattern

Many poker players have an extremely difficult time playing heads up. Some collapse under the pressure and others become painstakingly obvious in how they bet in heads up. Make sure you keep an eye on your opponents betting habits. Every now and then you may want to call a hand that you know your probably beat in just to see what the opponent has. If you can pick up an opponents betting habits it’s almost as if they are showing you their hands.

Tip #4 – Mix Up Your Play

Even if you are not getting the best of cards you must always try to mix up your play to throw your opponent off your scent. Raise with 9-4 suited. Call with A-3 offsuit. This way your opponent cannot pick up a good betting pattern from you. Many poker players are not great when it comes to heads up play. By throwing your opponent off your scent it possible that he/she will be enticed into making a careless all-in call. All it takes is one big mistake in heads up play and you’ll have your opponent right where you want them.

Tip #5 – Don’t Over Do the “All-In” Call

Please do not go over board going all-in. This is like leaving your hand up to fate. There is some luck involved in poker but you don’t want to just get by on being lucky. Besides, doing this is a clear give away that you may be less advanced and a veteran will wait for their chance and BURRY you. Mix up your play, raises, calls and folds, and in the end the better player usually wins out.

Poker Strategy: Slow Playing Monster Hands

The art of slow play in poker is a vital skill that once learned is a dangerous play that can destroy and cripple opponent’s chip stacks. Simply put, slow playing is displaying weakness when your hand after the flop is extremely strong. For example, you have pocket fives and the flop comes 7-5-Q all off suit. This is a beautiful flop to slow play because there are no flush draws and remote straight draws that are unlikely.

To slow play in this situation you merely check when its your turn to act and let your opponent(s) do the betting for you. Slow playing is most effective against aggressive and super-aggressive players that will bet if no one else does almost every time. Once they bet, don’t jump the gun and go all-in just discipline yourself and simply call. On the turn there’s not really a card that can come out that will scare you too much so check-call again. On the river when your opponent bets this is when you raise or check-raise if you want to try to extract some more chips.

Keep in mind that slow playing is not the viable option every time a favorable flop comes up or every time you flop a set. You need to analyze the flop carefully to determine if it’s a proper play. Even if it is a favorable flop it should not be done every time especially if you raised pre-flop because checking after a raise can look suspicious to keen players but at weak home games or a weak table you could get away with it most of the time.

As far as analyzing the flop you need to look at what potential draws are possible on the board and how likely your opponent is to hold cards that could be part of the draw. The first thing to look for is flush draws (two or three suited cards on the flop) then screen for straight draws (a flop like J-10-2 or 5-6-7 are bad flops to flop a set with). If one or both draws are present slow playing is not the ideal play however you can try it on the flop then speed up if a scare card comes on the turn to see if your set is still good.

When slow playing straights you need to watch and look for flush draws and that’s the main thing you need to be cautious of unless the board pairs and you’re concerned about a full house. For flushes, you can probably slow play a queen-high and up flush but any lower than that you should semi-slow play by perhaps checking the flop and speeding it up on later streets. Lower flushes are difficult because being beat by the nut (ace-high) flush or other high flushes is hard to read so I do not advise slow play when flopping a flush under queen-high.

Don’t play scared because when you’re slow playing you have a monster hand but just play cautious and be aware of draws and letting opponents chase draws. Slow playing is not optimal play against conservative players because they will likely check behind you to see the free card and giving free cards is the worst thing you can do. Only try slow play if you’re sure there will be betting behind you.

How to play poker – Part 2

So how DO you WIN at No Limit Hold’Em?

I’d like to hazard a guess: you’ve started playing No Limit Hold’Em online. Time and time again you think you’ve played well, yet, when you log off, your cash has been mysteriously taken from you by someone who you thought must have been drunk (at the very least) or just got lucky.

Let’s be very clear about two things. First of all there are an incredible amount of bad players out there ( I myself played for two years before looking into poker strategy that went beyond the very basics that are taught in most books, i.e. only play very strong cards early and loosen up a bit when you are in position etc.). Secondly, the good players who understand the most important aspect of No Limit play spot the bad players a mile off.

So what IS the most important aspect of No Limit Hold’Em? Understanding pot odds, implied odds, pot equity or which are the best starting hands? I agree that all of these subjects are vital to becoming a good No Limit player but in my view PSYCHOLOGY is what it’s all about. It’s all very well having a good hand and making a good size bet to try and win the pot but if an opponent then raises you for all of your cash you have to have the guts to call. If you have top pair and the river card makes a possible flush and you’re raised all-in what do you do? Without having any statistics to prove it apart from hours and hours of poker play I think the majority of players would fold because they’re too scared to lose their remaining money as they think their opponent has made the flush.

If you’re one of those players who would fold you can read almost any No Limit poker book and still not become anything more than an average player. However, I have one piece of advice for you. Stop playing No Limit for a while and force yourself to learn how to play Limit Hold’Em first. Basically, your strategy should be to become a great Limit player before you put another dollar down on a No Limit table. Limit poker will teach you all the poker fundamentals that you need to know without risking losing all your cash in one pot. In particular, playing Limit Hold’Em for hours and hours will teach you how to spot who’s bluffing in a lot of cases on the river or the turn without costing you hundred’s of dollars.

As with No Limit you need to read the best books about Limit Hold’Em or watch the best Dvd’s in order to understand the game properly. The difference, as I see it, is that you can play most of your hands to

4 Tips To Improve Your Online Poker Game

Online Poker has increased in popularity exponentially over the past few years. More and more people are jumping into the poker game and some are making good money playing poker online. You too can win and be the next Texas Hold ‘Em champion. There are a few tips that can help anyone play better poker, and win more money.

1. Don’t play too many hands! Some poker players dive in and have 4 hands going at once. Not only does this make it more difficult to focus on each opponent at several tables, but it also causes many to lose money a lot faster. Generally stick with one hand in the beginning and move up slowly. Once you are proficient enough, two hands is a good idea because it can help you win more money. Focus on higher value hands in the beginning to maximize earnings.

2. Watch your opponents. The best poker players are the most alert to their opponents. Watch your opponents betting habits. If they are someone who likes to bluff, you won’t be tempted to fold when they place a high bet. However, some players only bet high when they have a strong hand. If you recognize this, you know to fold and save your money. Poker is a constant learning process. The more you know about your opponents, the easier it will be for you top predict what kind of hand they have, and you can play accordingly. Some of the best time to study your opponents is when you arte not in the hand. If you folded early, take the time to study your opponents.

3. Use betting to gain information about your opponents. Betting is a very useful tool when used correctly. Some bet high to see if opponents will stay in. Re-raises also accomplish this same end. “Checking” is also a good technique. If you check, and your opponent bets, he or she may have a better hand than you. At the same time, if you notice your opponent checking, you might think that he or she has a bad hand.

4. Bluff sparingly and be unpredictable. The best poker players use the bluffing technique very sparingly. Some players simply bluff without any thought to the consequences. The worst thing a player can do is establish himself or herself as a bluffer. It is best to bluff when you know, or have a credible supposition that your bluff won’t be challenged by anyone. In this same sense, it is a good idea to be unpredictable. Any player that gets into habits will undoubtedly have difficulty making money.

Online Poker can be fun and profitable for anyone. However, if you follow these few tips, it might be more profitable for you than others. Poker is an ongoing process. You can always improve, so never hesitate to read a book on poker and increase your knowledge and skill. Poker is a game of perception and awareness. The best players not only understand the game of poker, but they understand all of their opponents and know techniques.

Basics of online poker – Part 9

I’ve been apart of the live online poker world for over four years now, playing mainly No Limit Holdem Omaha poker. I have had my shares of excitement, torment, and overall frustration through out the four years. I have played at over 10 different online poker sites in search of fun, profitable money tables and online poker tournaments. But the only two web-sites that stand out for playing poker online are UltimateBet.com and FullTilt.com. Through my adventures at these sites I have learned many tips and tricks to being and becoming a good online poker player.

There are many things to learn to be a great online poker player but the two most important things to remember are being patient and being calm. It is important to remember that good cards and a good pot (money/chips to be won) will come. Be patient. The player must understand that there are millions of others who take many bad risks resulting in hundred’s and thousands of bad beats online. Stay Calm. For those of you who may not know what the meaning of bad beat’ is, online poker will soon teach you a bad beat is when your opponent beats you with an extremely unlikely hand usually with very low likely hood of happening. Learn to forget easily whether winning or losing a hand; if your emotions stay grounded you can think clearer from hand to hand.

I really like ultimate bet for one key reason. You can always find a free-roll tournament on UB. Every hour, 35 min after the hour, there is a new tournament. Although these tournaments register up to 3,000 people there are only about 900 left after the first hour. The top 20-30 people will be paid, but it does require a bit of gamble and good luck to come out on top. Untimely, trying to cash in these tournaments will take good poker reading, or the ability to know what cards your opponents have. Once you have cashed you can enjoy any table from pennies to any dollar amount you wish. If you do not want to wait the 4 to 5 hours to play at a money table, it will take seconds to put a minimum of 50 dollars on your account.

The other site that I recommend to try is Full Tilt poker. Full tilt poker offers great money tables and my favorite, Sit and Go tournaments. The Sit and Go tournaments and Full tilt are always going. They offer 45, 90, and 180 players Sit and Go’s ranging from a $1.25 to hundred dollar tourneys. These tournaments start once enough players have signed and it usually won’t take you longer than 5 minutes to start. Full Tilt also offers easy ways of deposit cash in a matter of seconds.

Whatever site you choose remember that on-line poker is for fun. From my experiences no matter what site you play at, if you want to play with good competitive players you will have to play at the higher dollar amount tables. Finally remember there are a lot of players who like to gamble, you will play against every single one of them.

All In: The ultimate no limit poker play

Choose your opponents and moments wisely when risking your entire stack. It’s true, you do get an awesome rush when flirting with the all-in, over the top raise. Especially when its a stone cold bluff intended only to get your opponent to fold.

Moving all in is not just about winning a huge pot, though. It is a strategic weapon in your poker game. That is, you have to also think of how going all in can be affected by your poker odds. Let’s consider an example:

The blinds are 25/50 and You have 1000 in chips left. You look down to see 78s in middle position. There is one limper in front of you and you elect to call. There is a raise up to 200 from the button. The blinds fold, early position calls and you call as you are being offered just over 3/1.

The board comes down 6s9dAs – a nice flop for you. The early position checks and you throw out a bet of 150 leaving you with 650. The button goes all in and you are now faced with a decision for all of your chips.

Your position is no longer a consideration. It will not matter if you are on the button or under the gun if you are going to be all in anyway. Therefore we can now look at this as a very simple probability problem.

You have 15 outs and so therefore have a 60% chance of improving to either a flush or a straight by the river. You only have 650 left and are being offered odds of just over 2/1 and so you should push all in!

Another great poker strategy for your all in move is when you move all in to prevent implied odds of you opponent. Let’s use the same example as above except flip it round so that you are now the button player.

It’s the same flop so the middle position puts in a bet of 150. It’s on you and you are holding unsuited big slick. You feel that you have the best of it at the moment and want to prevent the middle position from drawing something. Let’s say that instead of the middle position having 1000 at the beginning of the hand, he now has 3000 and so do you. In order to protect your hand, you could raise all in. The the middle position will only be getting odds of 1.32/1 which would not justify a call.

Of course, we know that the middle position will not always fold despite his odds. Such is poker.

Comparing online poker and traditional poker – Part 5

To many people today, comparing online poker to traditional live poker is like comparing the two Darrens on “Bewitched”; they both accomplish the same thing, but in two different ways. Online poker, especially since the “poker boom” of 2003 has become the number one way of people to learn the game. And, because of this, it has many of the “old school” live playing rounders shaking their heads in disbelief at what has become of their game.

The average game of Texas Hold Em, when played in a live setting, is a slow, almost tedious game. Between looking at the cards, counting out their chips for a bet, and contemplating a call and a raise, a full, 10 handed game will see maybe 30 hands per hour. According to the experts, you will fold almost 90% of your hands pre flop, in essence being involved in only 3 or so hands per hour. Compare it to the speed of an online game: As many as 120 hands per hour are possible. There is no need to count your chips; the computer does it for you. Most online sites give only 15-30 seconds to make a decision. The inherent speed of this game is the biggest difference. To an online player playing live for the first time, it can mind-numbingly dull, especially after only 3 hands in an hour.

The decision making process is also extremely different. Most people play for low limits (less then $100 a session). When only red and blue circles on a computer screen represent your poker playing bankroll, the money doesn’t seem “real”. It isn’t unusual to see a player putting his entire bankroll at stake on a flush draw. But, when the clay chips in front of you, in your hands, on the green felt, across from a guy with a nickname like “Buggy” staring you down with icicles in his eyes represent next months car payment, you think twice about calling a pot sized raise on a gut shot.

The strategy in both online and live play is similar, however, in online play, you have on great disadvantage: you can’t see your opponent. The study of “tells”, little, subconscious things we do when faced with a decision is a real challenge. Maybe Kohn always covers his mouth when he is bluffing. Mary can’t stop fidgeting with her hair when she has a strong hand. These tells can save, or cost you tons of money in a live game. Online, however, your opponent “Mr. Scary” is represented only by a flashing gold circle. He could be biting his nails, or eating chow mein for all you know. Some great online players have come up with “online tells” such as a betting patterns and the quickness of a decision. The faster the bet, the weaker the hand is the rule. To both online and live players, reading your opponent is one of the biggest advantages you can get in the game. Both players must make the necessary adjustments when venturing into the new version on their old game.

The greatest thing about online poker is the availability of a game, any time, anywhere. You don’t to drive 2 hours to the nearest casino, or book a trip to Vegas. You can just flip on your computer, and within minuets you are playing. This of course is also the downfall of many players. In a casino, when the money is gone, you go home. It’s a big psychological blow to the ego to have to go to the ATM for more money. Lost your roll on pokersite.com? Just add to your account with your bankcard, who’s gonna know?

In all, the game is the same, just the way you approach is different. It’s extremely hard to be successful in one version, but horrible at another. But, if you need to practice, online is the way to go. If you’re losing at both online and live, then sell the computer, put away the chips and take up golf. At least you’ll get out of the house.

Online Poker and How to Win Against your Opponent

Playing and winning online poker is a science. It is both a skill and an art of mastering things that most players take for granted.

If you are signing up for an online poker game, keep in mind never to choose the “any game at this limit” option. By choosing this, you are also hindering your capacity to take control of your position on every sign up list. There are options that give you the privilege of having the top position by winning and giving up the place by quitting and at the same time you could still rejoin and have you name at the bottom of the list.

Always look for a card room that fits your style. This way you always get the upper hand. If luck strikes in and you get on a bad round, look around the page for another table.

Playing two games at the same time seems a nice idea. It seems that by doing this, you could double your money in one playing hour. This could be true for some players, but remember, it happens for a few and not for everybody. Besides, playing two games at a time would definitely lay down your small blind more and you sure are most likely to tilt. Keep yourself focused on one game. This way you could have the upper hand especially if you are playing a major, drawn-out pot. Playing one game at a time also helps you play straightforwardly with only one opponent to concentrate on.

There is online software that has proved to be marvelous. However, there are minor glitches that you need to stay away from. This is the “in-turn” button. This button allows the player to act on hand before your actual turn and allows him to go back trying on other moves. But there may be instances that the internet connection may not be at their best. There may be a time that while clicking the “check in-turn button,” the action may already be on you. What will happen is that the “call” button might be popping out on your screen in the place where you are supposed to click the “check” button.

In poker, the only sure way of winning is by showing down the best hand. This is true not only for casinos but for online as well. However, there a number of reasonable ways a smart player could increase his chances of winning. The sure way of acquiring winning poker skills is by checking out how players deal with their games and keeping in mind the right moves.
