Poker Variations – How to Vary Your Hand Play

Playing poker is not just a game of luck. To win in a game of poker wouldn’t depend on how lucky you are but instead it would depend on how skilled you are. Yes, poker is a game of skill and a game of psychology. Psychological warfare is a common practice on a poker table. This includes bluffing, misdirection and basically not letting your opponent know what you’re up to and avoid being read by your opponent. Once another player knows how you play and has an idea of the strategy you use, it would be all over for you. Every move you make could possibly be predictable by your opponent already. To counter this, it is important to vary your playing style and the hands that you play. This is called poker variations.

Poker variations or varying your hand plays is a crucial skill to learn in playing poker. This would separate the poker players from the poker champions. All good poker players have the skill of varying their hand plays and strategies. Like most of the skills in poker however, you learn this through experience. Actually playing the game is the best way to learn. It’s all about poker variations when it comes to misleading your opponent and keeping yourself safe from being read like a book by the opponent. Basically a player can have only a limited number of hands that he or she can play, however you cannot stick to only one hand to play. For example you’re playing Texas hold ‘em up poker. If you only call a bet whenever you have a king in hand then chances are one of your opponents would notice this and he or she would be able to predict what you have and what you will do. This would ensure you of a loss. However, before you can vary your hand play effectively you would have to hone your other poker skills first. Calculating probabilities and the odds of each hand is a skill that a player must gain in the early stages of learning how to be a good poker player. This is important to poker variations because it would be used for analyzing.

A player must know when to use poker variations. The best times to vary your hand play would be determined by what is currently happening. Analyze the players, the game and the odds then adjust your hand play depending on what you analyze and see. You would have to be able to analyze the situation first before being able to vary your hand play effectively. In a heads up play, it would be far easier to analyze the situation as the other factors have been removed.

There are a lot of skills involved in becoming a good poker player. This is not a simple game of luck like roulette or slot machines; this is a contest of knowledge, psychology and skill and it is important to gain all these things first before becoming a true poker champion.

Poker Strategy: Look Out For The Flush Draw

May 25, 2010 by bkkpkerplayer

Let’s take a look at a situation that some online players find irresistible, and this situation is playing hands just for the color. Why they do it is pretty simple: they look nice all rounded up and with the same color and they will surely bring the player fabulous winnings. But they won’t, you need luck to get a flush just out of two cards. They play for instance and Ace or a king along with any kicker just because they are from the same suit. Many even cross this line, and they think that anything is worth playing if the two cards share the same color.

You looking back at your game you find that you also can be help responsible for these kinds of hands, even when you find yourself in early position, then you must really rethink your way of playing. Let’s take a look at the odds you get a flush right out of the flop. So, to have a flush them you must have in your hand two card of one color, and next to this, the three cards dealt in the flop must be all three of the exact same color as the ones you are holding. The chances for that to happen are under 1%. They are actually about 0.85%. That means something like 118 to 1. Very low chances. So, even now when you know this you might still play let’s say an Ace with any suited card because you hope you will get a flush along with the flop or on the river. But, usually you have to waste lots of money to test this. And saying that you do have a flush, you can not be sure that you have the winning hand. Maybe another player tried it too and he has a flush also, only with better cards than yours.

I know that everyone finds it hard to give up this method but if you want to be successful you must give it up. Just think of it as it is a bad think, that will surely make you lose money and this way you might be able to give it up.

To stop yourself from doing this mistake again just set an objective not to play this hands for 10 poker sessions from now one. Take a pen and a paper and note down every hand you will throw that fits this description. And fold but continue watching the game. In the end do some calculus and see if you could have won that hand. Include all the bets you would have made to win it, how much money you would have spent on that hand and how much you would eventually win.

Repeat this for every hand. And after 10 poker sessions, add all the figures up. And surprisingly you will realize that it was a right decision, that you saved money and this will convince you too be more careful with hands of two suited cards.

Strategies of Playing Online Poker

The first enormous difference that applied in poker strategy is when it is applied in tourney from when it is applied in ring games. And also the poker strategy and poker chips purchase varies a lot in playing poker online and in a real time brick and motor. Most of the online card rooms tend to draw an upper limit on the number of stakes that one can purchase in a day’s play. The poker strategy for any player should be done with giving a consideration to the betting allowed and the size of the stakes that a layer has for the day in a tourney or a ring game.

Poker strategy that has lot of aggression in it might not be bankroll friendly in cases where the player is betting within limits and is sticking on to building the bank roll by winning play money. Poker strategy with aggression can be supported by making additional deposits; however, that can be a temptation gambling plan much against responsible gambling ethics. However anyone that is a high limit player, should contact create a bankroll that is suitable for it so that the poker strategy is not hurdled by having to play high limits with less number of stakes.

Deposit limit are something that will affect both poker strategy you play and also the limit that you are able to play with it. The most successful player can play very aggressively or something they can apply the wrong poker strategy by going too high beyond their online bankroll, which can in some cases cause the player to go broke and without action or no choice for even the last rebuy. This can happen in most of the aggression poker strategy where the bettor will put themselves in the wrong action of high bets which is quite a common, yet critical mistake.

If the online bankroll is limited, it is very important to device poker strategy accordingly. And it is always best to avoid poker strategy that is demanding high chips for betting. Sometimes it can be tempting to play beyond bankroll because the winning might be tempting; however, it is important to sacrifice such winning as a mark of controlled gambling behavior.

Obviously, this kind of controlled poker strategy within bankroll can be difficult to follow, but as time and bankroll improves slowly, the high betting you miss today might become a second behavior because your bankroll and skill would have survived and advanced to be the best and strong to face the competitive high bettors.

Basics of online poker – Part 3

What is online poker?

Online poker is the same principal as normal poker and is becoming increasingly popular worldwide for example in 2005 $200 million was spent a month! The incentive of winning millions seems to be attracting more people every day however every time you win, someone else is losing, vice versa. The poker room can be a treacherous jungle of complex tricks and it has been know to bankrupt even the most careful player. Most of the online poker company’s have adopted a new way of playing poker for free to entice and attract the beginner, its called “play money”. Play money unlike real money, can be topped up if lost however it has one major floor, it can give you bit of an ego, meaning that when you make the transition to “real money poker” you lose money very quickly . There’s also online tournaments which tend to be in real money but you can get “free rolls” which are tournaments that cost nothing to enter.

What’s the difference between online and normal poker?

There are lots of differences between the two types of poker:

1. One big difference is that in online poker you don’t have the body language or “tells” that in the intimidating casino, often give new players away . Instead online poker players focus more on betting patterns, reaction time ( which isn’t very reliable as some players may have slower computers etc.) or even the optional chat box.

2. Perhaps a smaller difference is the rate of play. When you play poker offline things like re-dealing and counting out chips from a split pot can slow the game down to something like 30 hands a hour. With online poker dealing and shuffling are instant and the use of “auto boxes” (tick boxes which enable you to make decisions before its your turn) etc make it even faster.

3. Another difference is that in online poker most poker room will let you play up to 10 tables at once which obviously would be impossible at a casino! This means that you could make up to ten times more or less money an hour. Also just like every thing else if you practise you get better so if you playing ten table of play money the chances are when you switch to real money on one or two tables your going to win like crazy !

4. In normal poker the only way to get better or indeed work out “tricks of the game” is practice (which usually include a certain amount of losing) weather on some online poker sites there is a poker school which teaches you the basics of poker and some extra tricks too, without the homework and bullies.

5. The last main difference is that in online poker stakes can go as low as $0.2/$0.3 but in offline poker the stakes don’t usually go lower than $1/2$ making your spending curb less painful for the bank account.

Methords of keeping it fun but under control

> Try setting a time limit. For example if you set your self a time limit of two hours and you are on a winning streak, you wont lose all your money.

> Set a amount of money that you want to spend, that way you don’t spend money you don’t have.

> Make sure you have a clock somewhere near so you can make sure you don’t miss appiontment ect beacuse you were to wrapped up in your game.

> Never play when you really tired as you will lose concertration and lose more money than usall. And that applies to playing at night as well.

Holdem-News – The Easy Way to Make Money Playing Online Poker

The easy way to make money playing online poker

If you plan to play online poker professionally, or if you’re looking for a steady stream of side income, you need to learn about making money online poker. You need to have a firm understanding of the game and have a solid strategy in place before you spend a dime. It’s more than just wining big hands; there is a definite strategy.

• First of which, you want to be able to set aside enough time to play the full tournament. Sometimes a nine player sit-n-go can last upwards to an hour. Make sure you have enough time to play, and don’t rush. Also, make sure you have an area to play which is free from distractions. If you are playing for money, you want to be able to focus on the game.

• Since there are generally no more than one or two big blinds per hours, small games aren’t worth it. You can’t get rich wining a couple of $5 blinds per hour.

• Don’t count on making money online poker by winning all the big hands. No matter how good you are, sometimes you get out played or get blindsided by another player’s dumb luck.

• Don’t mistake luck for skill. If you end up winning a $500 game, because you had pocket aces, and two more hit the table…that was just luck. You shouldn’t expect that to happen all the time.

• Your primary making money online poker goal isn’t necessarily to have the best hand, it is just to force everyone else out so you can take the pot no matter what they are holding. Again, it is a game of skill and strategy…not just cards.

• Run the pot up whenever you have a good hand. That lets you win more and offset the hands you’ll be losing.

• Fold early and often. You should not be playing every hand. Just play the ones you can win. Don’t chase flushes or straight draw’s unless you think your opponent has a weak hand.

• Don’t get discouraged when you have a run of bad luck. It’s nothing personal. Play tightly and aggressively and you’ll end up leaving that bad luck behind.

• Don’t get too full of yourself. You may be looking good going into the flop, but the table can change in an instant. Watch the other players closely so you can tell if something big just happened.

• Watch your money carefully. Set a daily loss limit and go home if you’ve reached it. Or, you can play a freeroll game and continue to solidify your strategy for free.

• Don’t play with “scared money.” That’s money you can’t afford to lose. If you’re betting your mortgage, you’re not going to be making decisions clearly.

• If you’ve got a string of bad luck that you just can’t kick, fold and walk away. It’s probably not an actual string of bad luck you’re up against; it could be that you’re not bringing your best game. Maybe there are things on your mind you need to clear up before you sit down again. Again, play a couple of free games and work through the kinks.

You can make a lot of money playing online poker. You need to follow the tips I just gave you, and bring a solid strategy, in no time you will be making money playing online poker.

Your reactions to the online poker law in the US

April 4, 2010 by bkkpkerplayer

My response to the online poker ban is based on some basic questions which I want you the reader to know the answers to.

Is poker banned in U.S.?

Do people like to play poker in U.S.?

Do people play online poker in U.S.?

Do people in U.S. enjoy playing online poker?

Is poker pure gambling or a game of strategy?

If you follow the poker world then you know the answers to all of these questions. Online poker has become so common in United States that the ban seems to be invisible and pointless. There are programs such as Moneybookers which happily transfer your money to gambling sites regardless of your country.

Famous players such as Phil Hellmuth, Doyle Brunson don’t only play online poker but even have advertising contracts and endorse them in United States. The federal law blindly accepts their endorsements and does not prosecute them because they are playing online poker.

The person who gets prosecuted is the average American Joe. An average American gets in trouble to play online poker because FBI keeps a close eye on them, but they don’t do anything to the high stake players.

In addition to all this, people in U.S. are modern and belong to a developed country. Americans need a pass time and micro stake poker just might be the solution to the boredom. It is quick and easy. Majority of U.S. citizens enjoy playing online poker and why wouldn’t they?

You can log in to the poker room right now and get a seat in less than 3 seconds, whereas a casino is probably a few hours away and sometimes filled with smokers and gamblers who don’t ever leave the poker table.

Then the question comes of poker being a game of strategy. It is considered to be 50-50, meaning that it does have luck but an equal amount of strategy is required to make money. With that being said, poker is not pure gambling like roulette, and shouldn’t qualify as “online gambling”.

People in U.S. play poker, advertise online poker sites and majority of the poker players in U.S. play online poker and ignore the law. The government did not make the law proper in first place forcing banks to accept checks from online gambling sites illegally.

When the whole country does something, it doesn’t become illegal, it becomes the norm. The government could have earned proper taxes and should have embraced online poker. American engineers could have even built their own site and get billions of dollars of revenue from around the world.

The ban on online poker was a waste of time, useless and most of all a biased decision which did not take in the opinions of poker players or anyone in the field of poker.

Basics of online poker – Part 10

While doing some paid freelance article writing, I learned about the phenomenon of how many people play poker online. It amazed me really, but not only that, I had to try it. I knew all of the poker sites had play money sections. I felt I could get a feel for it without breaking the bank. Trust me, I am not a gambler. Even losing two dollars once a year on a horse race is enough to keep me away from betting.

But something about playing poker online got me in. So I signed up, downloaded and chalked up my play money balance. Of course knowing that I could just go to the bank and get some more meant I played in a somewhat carefree manner. But it certainly did feel great when I won. I could immediately see how someone could get hooked on playing at an online poker site. But I could also see how careful administrations and patience could see some nice sums build up.

Which brings a dilemma in itself. As with all legalized adult ‘fun’, used responsibly this cold be entertaining and profitable. But overuse would surely ruin lives. Where do we draw the line on society? On the up side, playing online poker is private, anonymous, and for the most part a non-judgmental environment. You can hoot and holler, laugh and do all the things you probably shouldn’t do if you play live. But you are time so fast and smart decisions must be made.

On the down side poker online is private, anonymous, and for the most part in a non-judgmental environment. This means there is no one there to warn you may have gone over the limit. No people to face and really it’s hard to get caught playing if your shouldn’t be. So again this comes back to whether you have an addictive personality. If you are prone to go overboard or have had gambling problems in the past, do not tempt yourself here.

If you are like me and make you $10.00 last forever on the 2c tables, then it is fun. For those who put time into it, have a reasonable size bankroll to get them started and participate in online poker tournaments, it can be profitable. Many are making their daily living from playing poker. but how do you make sure you can stick with playing online poker for fun, and not get caught up and overspend?

1. Set limits-daily spend, table spend and profit limits. Decide how much you are comfortable losing. This is a limit you never go over, especially at first. If you play the 1c/2c tables then decide how much you will take to that table, they do have a minimum and maximum limit on some. Decide
